Filling stations
Currently there are 14 public natural gas filling stations in Finland, located in Helsinki (Malmi, Herttoniemi and Ruskeasuo), Kouvola, Karhula, Riihimäki, Porvoo, Lappeenranta,Tampere, Hamina, Espoo, Lahti, Mäntsälä and Hyvinkää.
Plans are well under way for new stations in Lohja and Imatra, further stations are expected to be built in the next two years at least in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
Some of the local distribution companies that Gasum works with are interested in building filling stations in their own areas.
Where possible, Gasum aims to offer natural gas refueling at existing traditional gas stations. Soon the basic network will comprise approximately 30 filling stations. One third of these will be in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the rest in other major urban centers. After that, the network is to be extended to major highway routes.
It is possible to build CNG filling stations outside the current natural gas network, by bringing the CNG in by truck instead of along underground pipelines. In this case the transport costs increase the price of the fuel slightly.
