LNG reduces emissions and burns more efficiently in engines
To produce LNG, natural gas must be cooled to -160°C. In the liquid phase the product's volume is reduced to 1/600 of the volume of its gas-phase condition.
Properties of liquefied natural gas:
• Temperature: around -160°C • Density in the liquid phase: 421 kg/m3 • Density in the gas phase: 0.73 kg/m3 • Calorific value: 13.7 kWh/kg (cf. liquefied petroleum gas 12.8 kWh/kg and oil 11.8 kWh/kg) • One tonne of LNG corresponds to 1370 m3 of natural gas
