Natural gas for naturally better energy solutions
Gasum sells natural gas to power companies and industrial facilities with a direct connection to the transmission network as well as to regional companies engaged in the local distribution of natural gas.
Sales of natural gas for local distribution
In most cases small-scale users of natural gas − such as small and medium-sized enterprises and households as well as individual properties and property companies − are connected to a local distributor's network. Local distribution accounts for around 5% of Finland's natural gas sales volume.
Gasum acts as a local distributor of natural gas in the Helsinki, Porvoo, Siuntio, Kotka, Riihimäki, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi, Lohja, Tuusula, and Kausala, Iitti, areas.
Gasum is also the leading provider of energy gas services and solutions and supplier of equipment related to gas use in the area of Finland covered by the natural gas network.
Wholesale trade in natural gas
Large-scale users of natural gas − industrial facility power plants and district heating plants − account for the vast majority of total natural gas consumption in Finland. Wholesale customers' gas procurement is based on supply and connection agreements and annual orders that supplement these, in which the customer determines the annual maximum capacity for gas transmission as well as the amount and capacity of gas required per month. Month-specific orders can be amended by customers over the year. Customers can also supplement their annual order procurement with Gasum's short-term product "Gasum Plussa" or secondary market gas. This trade takes place under Gas Exchange Ltd.
Natural gas pricing is regulated
The total price of natural gas in both wholesale trade and local distribution consists of the energy charge and transmission charge in the same way as the price of electricity. Natural gas pricing is supervised by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), which also determines the permitted rate of return for natural gas.
