For cleaner wellbeing

Careful planning of gas network use and preventative maintenance play a major role in Gasum's efforts to look after the environment. Our environmental management system adheres to the ISO14001 standard and our integrated management system has been certified by DNV Certification Oy. Gasum is committed to sustainable development in environmental issues and is a signatory to the Chemical Industry of Finland's Responsible Care Initiative. We also promote energy efficiency in compliance with the industrial energy efficiency agreement.

Gasum’s own greenhouse gas emissions are less than one percent of total greenhouse gas emissions over the whole natural gas chain. Almost 90 percent of the emissions are released when natural gas is combusted in energy production and industrial plants and traffic use. Over 10 percent of emissions come from the natural gas production and transmission operations in Russia. Most of the Gasum’s own methane emissions occur when natural gas is released into the atmosphere when a section of pipeline is emptied during renovation works.

Safety as the foundation of our activity

We maintain and actively develop our own safety management system. The system is regularly inspected during internal and external audits. All Gasum Group companies received the OHSAS 18001 certificate from DNV Certification Oy in 2009.

To maintain and further improve safety, Gasum participates in many national and international working groups and organisations. Several Gasum employees are members of committees and working groups of organisations such as the International Gas Union (IGU), European Gas Research Group (GERG) and European Pipeline Research Group (EPRG). We also follow the drafting and entry into force of legislation through our representation in working groups and committees.
