Filling up with CNG
Filling up a gas vehicle is simple and based on self-service. To fill up, connect the gas hose nozzle to the receptacle on the car. The nozzles have a locking mechanism and the refuelling system design protects against gas being released into the atmosphere.
Gasum’s stations sell only compressed natural gas (CNG). Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is not sold on our stations. In practice, natural gas is methane (CH4), whereas LPG is propane (C3H8) or a propane-butane compound (C4H10). Therefore these two fuels are completely different.
The fast-fill system features a high-power compressor and storage for pressurised gas. Refuelling usually takes place from a pressurised storage tank so filling up your car does not take any longer than filling up with petrol. All of Gasum's filling stations are fast-fill stations. The refuelling pressure is 200 bar at 15°C, temperature compensated.
In the slow-fill option the compressor dispenses gas directly into the vehicle gas cylinder and refuelling typically takes 10−12 hours. The method is often used in transport company depots and home refuelling systems.
The nozzles we use are of the NGV 1 type which is standard in Europe. NGV 2 nozzles for heavy vehicle refuelling are also available at our Ruskeasuo and Malmi filling stations in Helsinki.
