Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a safe fuel
Compressed natural gas (CNG) is an inexpensive and safe vehicle fuel alternative.
Natural gas vehicles and their gas cylinders are designed and built to be safe in the event of a collision. Their fuel systems are secured with several safety features such as pressure relief and shut-off valves, refuelling hose breakaway valves, thermal fuses, etc.
And even if some natural gas did manage to leak out, it is quite unlikely that it will be ignited as methane has a very limited range of flammability. Besides, CNG is lighter than air. Unlike liquefied gas, which is heavier than air, CNG does not cause an explosion hazard for instance in garage pits.
In Central Europe, the operation and parking of natural gas vehicles is in no way restricted.
