Gasum to expand gas filling station network to Jyväskylä, Finland – station opens in summer 2017

Gasum is opening a gas filling station in Vaajakoski, Jyväskylä, Finland. Constructed close to the Ruokosaari and Kanavuori areas at Metsälehmuksentie 9 and opening during summer 2017, the station will serve the needs of cars, vans, commercial as well as heavy-duty road vehicles.

In addition to the Jyväskylä station, Gasum is also opening other new stations in locations including Hämeenlinna, Pori and Petikko, Vantaa. Information about progress made with construction schedules will be provided as soon as possible. The new gas filling stations will be located on central sites, with the main focus being on urban areas and transport nodes.

Station to serve cars as well as heavy-duty vehicles

Compressed natural gas (CNG) and biogas (CBG) will be available from the Jyväskylä station to fuel cars, delivery vehicles, waste management vehicles and buses. The station will also serve heavy-duty vehicles by offering liquefied natural gas and biogas (LNG/LBG) as a choice of fuel. Last year Gasum opened LNG filling stations at Helsinki’s Vuosaari Harbor and close to the Port of Turku as part of the road fuel gas market expansion to which Gasum is highly committed.

Gasum has been granted Connecting Europe Facility support to explore the opportunities to construct an LNG/LCNG refueling station network and to the deployment of four pilot stations. The next heavy-duty station is due to open this year close to Ring Road III in Vantaa.

Gas is an inexpensive and environmentally friendly fuel alternative

Gasum is strongly committed to the development of gas vehicle use and will construct 35 new filling stations over the coming years. The development of the gas infrastructure is vital for the expansion of gas vehicle use, and a comprehensive network will enable seamless driving on low-emissions gas around Finland. There are currently 28 gas filling stations in Finland.

Gasum’s special campaign for private customers offers fuel for a fixed monthly price. Those getting a gas car only pay €69 a month for natural gas or €89 a month for biogas during the 18-month campaign period at Gasum filling stations. The campaign is aimed at new and current customers who buy or import a gas-fueled car during the campaign period. The offer can be utilized until the end of March.

Emissions from vehicles running on natural gas are lower than those from gasoline and diesel. Gasum biogas is a 100% Finnish and renewable fuel that does not generate any carbon dioxide emissions at all when used. It is the only road fuel sold in Finland that has been awarded the Made in Finland Key Flag Symbol as well as the Nordic Ecolabel.
