LNG used for first time to secure gas distribution in Tampere, Finland

Gasum is supplying a portable LNG vaporizer to Tampereen Sähkölaitos energy company. It enables the injection of gas into the gas distribution network during the distribution network alteration work required due to the Tampere tramway project from July 24 to 25, 2017.

Tampereen Sähkölaitos wants to ensure disruption-free service to its gas customers during the distribution network alteration work. Thanks to the LNG vaporizer, liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be supplied to a total of around ten gas customers. These include industrial as well as residential properties.

”This is the first time that we’re securing gas supply by vaporizing LNG. We’re also collecting user feedback on the functioning of our backup arrangements as regards supply security and disruptions,” says Paavo Knaapi, Energy Distribution Manager, Tampereen Sähkölaitos.

LNG is an excellent way to take care of supply during a gas network interruption as its storage and transport take place flexibly from the Pori LNG import terminal. LNG offers safety and supply security for gas supply thanks to the efficient gas distribution chain. LNG will be injected into the distribution network between July 24 and 25. LNG is supplied to Tampere by the Gasum subsidiary Skangas, and vaporizer installation work is carried out by staff from Gasum Technical Services.
