Ari’s thoughts on cleaner logistics
I've worked in the energy sector since the 1980s. Back in the day, I would hear people in the industry say things like “why would you use that dirty biogas when you could use perfectly clean natural gas instead?”
However, Gasum went against the tide. It makes me proud that we made the early decision to invest in biogas, because renewable fuels are critical to make the energy transition happen. There are still situations where natural gas is the better option, but that is when it’s compared to conventional diesel and heavy fuel oil.
Today, our biggest opportunity in the energy transition is biogas and e-methane. Biogas is renewable, cost-efficient, and interchangeable with natural gas. Availability is good, and on the rise, with established logistics and supply chains in place. And it can reduce emissions by up to 90%. And, we are eagerly looking forward to the introduction of e-methane, a synthetic and sustainable gas that will have a significant impact once it is launched in 2027.
