The Helsingborg biogas plant was originally built in 1996 and later expanded in 2000 and 2020. In 2025, Gasum acquired full ownership of both the biogas plant and the upgrading company. This acquisition is part of Gasum’s strategic plan to increase biogas production.

The plant processes approximately 160,000 tonnes of household and industrial waste, as well as manure. Its maximum production capacity is 80 gigawatt hours (GWh) of upgraded biogas per year.
