Update on Gasum’s biogas plant development in Sweden
Gasum is developing several large-scale biogas plant projects in Sweden. The plant in the municipality of Borlänge is nearing completion. Two other projects, Hörby and Sjöbo, have received the final investment decision, and are in the construction planning stage.
Gasum’s main construction partner for the Borlänge plant has been Lundsby Renewable Solutions AB. The company has also been involved in the planning work for the Hörby and Sjöbo plants. On 9 October 2026, Lundsby Renewable Solutions AB filed for bankruptcy.
Gasum is currently working closely with Lundsby's subcontractors and other relevant stakeholders to minimize the impact on affected projects and secure continued progress. A review of project execution and procurement strategies is underway to enable project activities to resume as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Status of affected projects
Borlänge
The bankruptcy requires an adjustment to the project schedule. The facility was originally planned to be commissioned in mid-October 2026.
Gasum is actively working to minimize the delay and expects to resume the remaining construction activities in the near term. The objective is to begin the commissioning process around the turn of the year.
Hörby
The bankruptcy has affected the project's planned execution schedule. Groundworks that were scheduled to begin in early 2027 will be postponed.
Gasum is working to minimize the delay and is currently reviewing its procurement strategy to start construction activities as soon as possible. The project has a legally binding environmental permit and an approved detailed development plan.
Sjöbo
The project has a legally binding environmental permit and is currently awaiting a final decision on the detailed development plan. At present, Lundsby's bankruptcy is not expected to affect the overall project schedule.
Moving forward
Gasum remains committed to increasing the availability of renewable biogas and advancing its ongoing investment program in Sweden. The company’s current focus is on securing continued progress in the affected projects, minimizing delays and ensuring that the facilities can be completed and brought into operation as efficiently as possible.
