Transport cleanly with LNG

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) are a clean and price-stable fuels for tractor units used in heavy-duty road transport. The European Union and the Nordic countries have set a strong agenda for reducing the emissions from transport. Emission targets require significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, creating the need for enterprises to reduce emissions in their supply chains where a major role is played by transport logistics.

In addition to industrial and marine usage, LNG is now for the first time in Finland also available for heavy-duty vehicles with operating ranges of up to 1,200 km. Gasum has opened LNG filling stations in Helsinki, Vantaa, Jyväskylä and Turku. Gasum is committed to investing in the development of the low-emission road fuel gas market by increasing the supply of LNG significantly in the key demand areas in Finland.

Gasum expands company’s heavy-duty filling station network in the Nordic countries

Gasum is investing in the construction of around 50 gas filling stations for heavy-duty vehicles in Finland, Sweden and Norway by the beginning of the 2020s. The investment will multiply the size of the Nordic heavy-duty vehicle gas filling station network, enabling considerable emission cuts.

Why LNG?

LNG is a clean fuel that doesn’t emit small particulates and also other emission components are low compared to other road transport fuels. The use of LNG reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 15% compared with fossil diesel on life cycle analysis. In addition, the noise emissions produced by LNG powered trucks is lower. LNG-fuelled trucks can also switch to 100% renewable liquefied biogas (LBG) without any special investments. LBG reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 85% compared with fossil fuel.

LNG-fuelled vehicles for heavy-duty road transport

Several vehicle manufacturers such as Iveco, Scania and Volvo Trucks, among others, already offer modern LNG-powered trucks.

”We want to lead the way in the transport sector and introduce new, more environmentally friendly vehicles to our fleet. LNG is a natural step in our efforts to make transport greener. I strongly believe that the number of Speed’s LNG-fueled vehicles will increase in the future.”
