Hilde Samsonsen: Safety, growth, and freedom
As Operation Safety and Quality Manager, Hilde Samsonsen ensures safe and compliant operations across Gasum’s Supply & Trading Business Unit. Her role spans multiple countries, balancing on-site presence with flexibility. With a background in safety engineering and environmental biotechnology, she has embraced Gasum’s culture of development and expanded her expertise continuously.
I work at Gasum as an Operation Safety and Quality Manager in Supply & Trading. My role has the responsibility to ensure a safe and compliant working environment, for Supply & Trading employees. In addition, all HSEQ personnel at Gasum are collaborating across units, building a strong safety culture in Gasum. Safety, security, and quality are my main responsibilities, and I take a proactive approach to keep operations running safely. I enjoy being on-site, working directly with people. Amongst other work activities, I handle Business Continuity planning, emergency preparedness, investigations, various risk assessments and audits. Every day brings something new, and the work varies from day to day and week to week.

I frequently travel for work, since our company operates in different countries, with many sites spread across remote areas. I enjoy this aspect of my work, since it allows me to meet people on-site rather than just communicating via email or Teams. In many cases, being present is essential for my role. At the same time, I have flexibility in how I plan my work and travels. There’s a great deal of freedom in how I structure my work.
I hold a Master of Science in offshore technology with a specialization in safety engineering. Additionally, I have a bachelor’s degree in chemical science, focusing on environmental biotechnology.
My journey at Gasum began in 2017 as an HSE Specialist. When I first saw the job ad, it felt like it was written for me, so applying was an easy decision. Later, I became Safety and Security Manager at Gasum group level, and when my current role as Operation Safety and Quality Manager opened up, I had the same feeling — I knew I had to go for it.
At Gasum, you’re not just allowed, but encouraged to grow and develop. In my eight years here, I’ve gained more knowledge and competence than in my previous career.
