Gasum enters into long-term wind power purchase agreement with ABO Wind Oy

Gasum Oy and ABO Wind Oy have entered into a long-term agreement on wind farm output. Under the ten-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Gasum will begin to sell renewable wind power produced in North Ostrobothnia to its customers starting in 2023. The agreement will enable the partners Gasum and ABO Wind to increase the availability of renewable Finnish energy and at the same time more wind power will be built in Finland. Domestic wind power will increase Finland’s self-sufficiency in electricity generation.

Energy company Gasum will buy electricity generated from wind energy starting in 2023. A 9-turbine wind farm with a total output capacity of around 40 megawatts will be built by ABO Wind Oy in Kestilän Kokkoneva in North Ostrobothnia. Gasum will acquire around 100 GWh of energy a year. The wind farm production capacity can generate wind power for example for some 50,000 two-room apartments.

“We’re pleased to enter into a long-term PPA with ABO Wind Oy. Wind power is a clean and renewable form of energy, which has a key role to play in meeting growing energy needs and curbing global warming. We want to provide the most comprehensive services on the energy market and to make it easy for our customers to operate on the energy market and to offer our customers renewable Finnish electricity,” says Kimmo Rahkamo, Vice President, Gas and power sales, Gasum.

“We are happy to conclude a PPA with a strong partner such as Gasum. Thanks to Gasum’s long-term commitment, we have a solid financial basis for realising our project Kokkoneva,” says Aapo Koivuniemi, Managing Director of ABO Wind Oy. “The remuneration system in Finland has changed and PPAs provide us with the opportunity to plan, finance and build wind farms under the new conditions.”
