Gasum issues a renewed Green Finance Framework – second party opinion remains Dark Green

Gasum has renewed its Green Finance Framework, which supports the company’s long-term strategic ambition of increasing the availability of renewable gas in the Nordic market and helping customers reduce emissions. A Green Finance Framework is a set of principles and criteria that defines the eligibility of projects and investments for financing through green instruments.

Gasum’s Green Finance Framework supports investments that advance cleaner energy solutions, with a particular focus on biogas production and distribution. These could be, for example, construction of new biogas plants, investments into distribution infrastructure or improvements in energy efficiency.

The framework’s second party opinion, issued by S&P Global Ratings, remains Dark Green, the highest rating. The rankings are graded Light Green, Medium Green and Dark Green with Dark Green underlining the positive environmental impact of the activities designed to be financed under the framework.

Gasum’s transitioning business model a strength

Gasum’s reported strength in the assessment was transitioning the company’s business model to the production and provision of renewable energy. Gasum is investing in the production and supply of biogas to gradually replace natural gas.

This is the second update to Gasum’s Green Finance Framework since issuing one for the first time in 2019. The framework has been rated Dark Green in each second party opinion.

Gasum has raised loans totaling EUR 175 million under the previous frameworks. Green funding impact is reported as part of Gasum’s annual sustainability report.
