Gasum opens new biogas filling station in the Port of Trondheim, Norway

The filling station has been established centrally in the Port of Trondheim with proximity to the E6 highway. The port area is an important and growing logistics hub in Trondheim, and the station will be open to both local and national carriers.

Gasum established its first biogas filling station in Trondheim at Tiller in 2021. Since then, the demand for renewable fuels has increased, and the new station in the Port of Trondheim will strengthen both capacity and security of supply in the region.

The station is part of Gasum's growing national network of filling stations along the main road network and is particularly well located for heavy transport going north from Trondheim.

The new station is part of Gasum's further development of biogas infrastructure along key transport corridors in Norway. Availability is crucial for more carriers to be able to use biogas in their daily operations.

Biogas can significantly reduce emissions

Biogas is produced from food waste, biological waste and manure, among other things, and helps to utilise resources that would otherwise be lost. When biogas is produced from manure, the fuel can result in a very high reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil alternatives.

On average, biogas can reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the fuel's life cycle by 95% compared to fossil fuels. Vehicles that run on biogas can also contribute to better local air quality, through lower emissions of nitrogen oxides, than vehicles that use conventional fuels.

The newly opened station offers both compressed and liquefied biogas and can thus serve different types of biogas vehicles.

Norway aims to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and 70–75% by 2035. The transport sector accounts for about a third of CO2 emissions in Norway, and road transport accounts for around half of those emissions. Cutting emissions from transport is therefore important for achieving the national climate goals.
