Gasum's biogas upgrading unit in Lahti transfers to Nevel’s ownership
Gasum procures all the upgraded biogas produced by the plant under a long-term purchase agreement. Nevel expands its role in the biogas market.
Gasum and Nevel have agreed on a transaction in which Gasum sells its biogas upgrading unit in Lahti to Nevel. Nevel has previously supplied raw biogas to Gasum's upgrading unit from its Lahti biogas plant.
Building on the previous cooperation, Gasum will purchase all biogas produced and upgraded at the plant from Nevel under a long-term agreement and feed it into the gas network to be sold to its customers. The change will enter into force on 23 June 2026 and will not cause any changes towards customers.
The new arrangement is logical for both organizations and supports the companies’ business priorities. Nevel expands its services and role in the biogas market. With the expert personnel at the Lahti plant, the operations of the upgrading unit are a consistent part of managing the entire value chain.
Nevel is planning to renew the plant's operations. The aim is to improve production efficiency and expand upgrading capacity. For Gasum, purchasing upgraded biogas directly from the plant simplifies processes and better supports business needs.
Gasum retains gas network connection
Nevel's biogas plant in Kujala, Lahti, produces approximately 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of biogas per year. The partial-stream digestion plant uses approximately 90,000 tonnes of biodegradable waste, sewage sludge and industrial side streams as raw materials for biogas every year.
Labio Oy built the biogas plant in 2014. At the same time, Gasum built an associated upgrading unit and a gas grid connection. Nevel acquired the biogas plant from Labio in 2025 and now the upgrading unit from Gasum.
The connection to the gas grid and the associated gas container unloading station will remain in Gasum's ownership.
